Etiquette For Donning Men’s Suit

You have picked a well-tailored suit and you are happy. The day arrives, and you are ready to don it for some special occasion and there you start entering into a confusing state. The thoughts ~ “Oh! Which tie”, “which shirt, this one or that one”. Crossing the hurdle of mixing and matching everything you are wearing today, then the question arises ~ when to button-up and when to open the buttons of the jacket. Let’s go through some of the cardinal rules of donning a ‘Suit’.
BY SHIVAJEE DUTTA

Riddle of Buttons
The trickiest part of wearing a formal jacket is knowing when to keep it open and when to button it up. While standing, it is the Gentleman’s choice to keep it open or button-up. One thing we always need to keep in our mind, the last button is purely for aesthetic purpose. Always keep it open. But exception is always there, wearing one-button jacket. Unfasten the buttons, while sitting down. Saves from spoiling the suit to looking stuffy and suffocating.
Vest too follow the same rule of not closing the bottom most button.
Complementing Shirt
On contrary to jacket’s buttons, one is supposed to use all the buttons on the shirt. While trying out dress shirt, put an extra emphasis on the collar size so when buttoned-up, you don’t feel choked and keep fiddling with the collar every now and then.
Now direct your focus at your wrists. The cuffs should not go beyond the wrist bones means not to flow over the hands. Cuffs should be buttoned up and use of cufflinks is always recommended.
Playing Mates ~ Shoes & Belt
This is the one part we take quite casually. We, in general, forget to match the color of our belt with the shoes i.e., when you are wearing a black belt the shoes should always be black. No exceptions. Now if you are slapping a leather-strap watch around your wrist, the strap’s color should also match the color of the belt and shoes. Addition to this, never forget to match your leather bag’s color with the other three items. It all should always complement the color of your suit.
Perfecting the Tie
Only tying the knot of a Tie doesn’t complete the task, one needs to keep a track of its length. The tip of the Tie should be just above the buckle of the belt. If it is bit longer or shorter, do it again till perfecting the length. Keep the color of the Tie in contrast to the suit but always be darker than your shirt. And make sure, tie-bar shouldnever exceed the width of the tie.
Tit-bits For Tightening It Up
Wear your socks in tone with your trousers and long enough to cover your legs even when you are seated.
Trousers should slide down just on the top of your shoes. Going below that will transform the smartly fitted pants into a baggy one, and if too short will expose the socks.
The hem of the jacket shouldn’t be inching below the zipper of the trousers. Once bought, lose all the threads binding the vents and the pockets along with outside labels.
If wearing suspenders, don’t bother to wear a belt too. Both serve the same purpose. Also, avoid accessorizing too much, let your suit do the talking.
This is just some of the basics of wearing a suit. Stay with me for diving deep into the ocean of knowledge of etiquette of donning a suit.

CHILDREN’S NEW TIME

Hello, Style Hut readers! Parenting, nurturing and navigating a child is not an easy task. As schools are closed, let us understand how we can deal with childcare during a quarantine. We all may already be feeling the challenge of social distancing, a.k.a. lots of together time. This shift to being homebound carries some moral ideas that may help to navigate our children to cope up with their future :

Apart from teaching them to be hygiene, wash their hands frequently, cover their mouth by a mask and stay indoors, we can also ask them what they know about the virus and the response. Keep asking if they have questions. When children know the problem, they want to know the PLAN; you don’t have to have a solution but let your child know how you are planning to stay safe and informed. Will there be enough food? Do you have the supplies you need? Let your child know that it’s okay to be worried. But assure them that this worry is temporary and that they can ask questions at any time. We’re all in this together and we’re all learning a lot.
Not being a parent myself but being surrounded by parents, I thought I ought to reach out to them to get some expert tips on how to manage little ones during the quarantine. My second thought is to be a mindset coach and allow your child to have a learning mindset. Allow your child to be creative, explore and ask questions. You don’t have to know all of the answers but it promotes critical thinking. Every morning set daily targets and have motivational quotes to enthuse your child.
We can also have fun-family-friendly activities like playing ludo, antakshri, music chair, making crafts, word puzzle, drawing, etc instead of using the technological devices or placing a cell phone in their hands. Yes, you can rent a movie on Netflix or watch on TV/laptop and have an evening movie night at home. Kids always follow their parents. So we all can have a quality time with them. Don’t forget popcorn in this fun !!
Digital world has made us more digital. We also have the opportunity to read books online. But what about your old library? In this quarantine period, apart from teaching children the school books, we can open up our out-books either comics, story, short story, fiction or novels from the almirah and give them to read. This is a good time to get your child into the habit of reading. You can also read a book to them every day. This will help them develop their vocabulary and language skills. For older kids, give them a reading goal for the weeks when they are at home and encourage them to complete it.
Teach the children about power naps, how it is very important for our health. This time doing a lot of gardening will blossom our lawn by summer. Teach them how we can give life to plants and how they produce their own food from sun, heat, light and water.

So be wise and keep yourself and your lovely children self-quarantine thereby giving a heartbeat to your life. That’s the only intelligent way to approach this virus, which is be super cautious and do everything humanly possible to make some learn and some fun with your children. They need us as we need them.
Have fun !!

“Believe in your dreams and work on it – This is my mantra…” DJ Farmeen

Farmeen Rahman, known as DJ Farmeen is one of the Indian DJs who has successfully been able to motivate aspiring female DJs to try their passion in the field of music. With a degree of Journalism and Mass communication, Farmeen has served as International Cabin Crew for Qatar Airways in her 20s. She is a complete clubbing soul, a nightlife lover and possesses a great understanding of music.
The Asian Chronicle got DJ Farmeen to answer some of the questions related to her journey and life of a Female DJ in India.
Interview by Bhoomika Mohan

Tell us a little about yourself. How did you begin your journey as a DJ?
Since my childhood, I have a sense of emotional attachment with the beats of music. Whenever I listen to the beats, I can feel them running through my body. I’ve been lucky to realize that at a very tender age. After my schooling was complete, I started attending DJ concerts and I could feel the urge to develop songs on my own. This urge got me to join a dj academy and that was where I learned all the basics.
Luckily, within a month, I started getting gigs from different clubs in Bangalore. And that was how my career as a DJ began.
Who do you admire in the industry? Is there someone you look up to, for inspiration?
Yes, of course, I  admire Martin Garrix, Hardwell and  Nervo. I love listening to music. I also love the way they perform and they inspire me by how they have established themselves in the industry.
For me, internal motivation is the key. Inspiration comes from everywhere, but most of the time, it is from the audience in front of me. It is just the music and the crowd. It gives me pure joy when the entire crowd unites on my music.
Do you think gender biases exist in the industry? Or do you think the scenario is improving!
If I speak very personally, I don’t think there are any gender biases in the Industry. Anyone who has required talent gets the chance to perform. It is only about how aware you are and how smartly you grab the opportunity in front of you. In fact, it is female DJs these days who are in huge demand than the males DJs.
Do you think Indian society is becoming more accepting of female DJs? Were your parents supportive?
Yes, I am very proud to say that Indian Society is becoming accepting of female DJs. Nowadays, most of the events in clubs or even at private parties, people prefer female DJs.
As far as my parents’ reaction is concerned. I have been very lucky. I think they’re the most important people in my journey. Had they not supported me in everything that I wanted to do in my career, I wouldn’t have been here.
Do you often find yourself faced with concerns about morality? How do you deal with unfavorable reactions? Do you ignore them or encourage meaningful discussion?
Thanks to Allah, I have never faced negative feedback. I welcome critics, they help me get better at work, and I admire my followers, they help me grow. They never question morality. I believe in positivity and spreading happiness and surround myself with people who do the same.
Do you prefer to live gigs and tours, over studio recordings and album releases?
Yes, I prefer to live gigs and tours because they give me a chance to feel a direct connection with the audience. I also make remixes and release them every month. Currently, I am working on an original track which will be released pretty soon.
Is there a word of advice you would like to give to the upcoming DJs, especially females?
Believe in your dreams and work on it- This is my mantra. I follow the very basic “Never give up” approach. Life is full of surprises, welcome them. If u are really interested and dedicated to work for something, I believe no one and nothing can stop you. This industry is very welcoming. Follow your passion and work harder than yesterday. That is what I’ve got to say to the aspiring DJs.

Book Review: Reminisce of the lost land

The uniqueness about this book is that it is read as written by a French lady, with the creation of a character named Louise. As the title of the book suggests, it is a little walk of the lost World, that once was a promising era.
Louise is a French lady, born in Nice. A working woman, struggling with her personal life and professional career. She is bearing the pain of being away from her family and her beloved daughter had hit her soul, yet she was ambitious with her attempts in making a documentary film to be featured at Cannes Film festival, which did make her take several hard decisions in her life.
Through the eyes of Louise, one is taken through the enthralling journey into the past, the royality, the palaces, and their festivities, which had left her spell bound. It was of course different from her experiences about the people back at Nice. She felt connected with the people here, at the same time felt isolated, thinking about her own past.
Louise comes across some amazing and unheard secret stories about the rulers and Diwan in parallel. She finds the world of Diwan and his family fascinating, and she is drawn to understand their life style.
The book is in two sections – Louise’s emotional experiences during her stay in the fort, while the later section is the expansion of the stories related to the Diwan’s family, and the hidden aspect being , that she is assisted by the present Maharani, but her name does not appear anywhere.
Overall, it is a small book, yet wonderful, collection of stories, rich memories , though nostalgic.
The book has captivated some great insight on Indian heritage from a forigen eye.

From offering poker classes, to organising nation-wide poker events, alumni from these prestigious schools have taken to the game in a big way and have championed the belief that poker is a skill-based game in which strategy and preparation triumph over fortune.

Now with India’s first National Poker Series scheduled to begin on 29th April, players across the country are enthused for the chance to compete at a grand scale as buy-ins for the event begin at just ?4000.
Jimitesh Singla (IIM-Bangalore), winner of PokerBaazi.com’s inter-collegiate poker fest involving 300+ participants from the IIMs, IITs, IMT-Ghaziabad, MDI Gurgaon and other top colleges, was excited about the opportunity. “Traditionally, live poker is seen as a high-stakes game that involves a lot of money, but the NPS gives a chance for everyone to compete. Since it’s a nationwide tournament, there is more than just prize money at stake. It’s bragging rights as to who is the best player in the country.”
The runner-up in the same event, Ankit Chaturvedi (IIM-Bangalore), added “Playing live poker is an experience in itself. The venue for the NPS is world-class and with people from all over expected to come, it’s comparable to an international experience.”

How father obesity no more a problem for the child now

Parental obesity is a hazard factor for obesity in offspring, with a higher probability for kids to be overweight or obese if in any event one of their parents is. Obese guardians are considered as risk factors for overweight/ stoutness of their offspring.
The relationship between overweight youngsters ‘and parental excess weight represents both gene and environment interactions. Our genes help determine body type and how the body stores and burns fat. But genes alone can’t explain the current obesity crisis. Because both genes and habits are passed down from one generation to the next, numerous individuals from a family may struggle with weight, says DR. KS KULAR, BARIATRIC SURGEON, MBBS, MS, F.M.A.S.
Along these lines, the expanding danger of adolescence or juvenile overweight in people with obese guardians may be because of their hereditary qualities or their living in a similar environment. Besides, youngsters usually imitate their parents. In this manner, dietary patterns and family lifestyle could have an impact on child eating behaviour.
Unfavourable parental eating patterns (including higher consumption of fried, fast foods, sweets) and a sedentary lifestyle such as low physical activity and prolonged TV and computer time may expand the danger of overweight and obesity in both parents and their children.
DR. KS KULAR, BARIATRIC SURGEON,also says, There is a parental contribution to the growing obesity problem among young children and teenagers. Youngsters are more likely to eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables a day if their parents do. Oppositely, youngsters whose guardians eat fast food or drink soda are more likely to do likewise. Food advertising that targets children and youth has been linked to the increase in childhood obesity. Promoting by industries always objectifies girls and women, contributing to body dissatisfaction, eating disorders, low self-esteem and depression.
Both hereditary and environmental factors contribute to childhood obesity. Some environmental factors including parental overweight, shared family lifestyle, dietary habits, and financial status are linked to childhood overweight.
Activities described as lifestyle factors include doing sports, television consumption, or the use of computer games among others. Peer pressure, social convention and religious practices can all lead to determining behaviours related to obesity. A connection has been found between individual weight and friends’ and family weight gain. Juvenile weight is related to that of people of a similar age in the friend gathering. While spousal weight can likewise be connected, life partner decision may impact this. The physical outcomes, emotional well-being issues and victimization are associated with obesity in youngsters and teenagers.
An individual’s friend network may affect their weight. Adolescents are bound to put on weight if they have friends who are heavier than they are. Numerous overweight youth didn’t express familiarity with the long-term consequences of poor diet and being overweight, nor did they view their lifelong health as a concern. A person is more likely to become obese if a close friend or family member has put on certain pounds, even if the friend or relation lives many miles away.
Obesity is a genuine issue in our worldwide now, for adults as well as for children. In our general life, several youngsters are overweight and do not care about their weight and will simply eat anything they desire and do nothing about it. It has been believed that guardians feeding patterns are a major factor in whether a child is under or overweight. Senior author, Dr Clare Llewellyn from UCL, adds: “These results show that parents are not the ‘full story’ when it comes to a child’s weight, and blaming parents for being too controlling about feeding may be unfair.
