“Russian Film Days” in India will be held from 12th till 15th October for the 4th time. This time it will be a part of cultural events at Russia-India Annual Summit and the meeting of the president of Russia and the Prime-Minister of India. The film festival is still expanding the boundaries: the most successful and prominent films will be shown not only in Delhi but in Pune and the capital of Bollywood Mumbai as well.
The opening ceremony will take place at Russian Center of Culture and Science in New Delhi on October, 12. An intense program of the festival is to be opened by a world premiere of “Last Trial” directed by Alexey Petrukhin. The film, which dwells on acute social issues, will be screened 1,5 months prior to the first night in Russia (November 28, 2018). It will be presented by actresses Ann? Churina and Alisa Grebenschikova.
An audience in India will have a chance to watch Russian iconic films which were released this year and have already gained wide popularity. Among them, there is the leader of Russian box office – drama on sport “Ice”, cosmic drama “Spacewalkers”, the first part of a cinema series “Gogol. The beginning”, the comedy “Well, hello there, Oksana Sokolova”, fairytale “The Last Warrior” and animation “Sheep and Wolves”.
The films will be presented by honored guests from the Russian film fraternity Anna Churina, Valentina Mazunina, Artem Tkachenko, Alisa Grebenschikova, Victor Khorinyak.
“Russian Film Days” in India are instrumental in improving contacts with the creative and economic elite as well as strengthening bonds in the cinema industry, instigating cultural exchange and shaping the image of Russia as a partner of India. Past experience makes its success this year obvious.
Forum producer, the adviser of the Russian Filmmakers Union, “The Hollywood Reporter” Russia editor-in-chief Maria Lemesheva, who heads the Russian delegation, says, “Every year the festival “Russian Film Days” is becoming more and more large-scale and it has always been popular with the audience. More than 15 thousand people have watched Russian films in India for the past 3 years. We believe that cinema language is one of the most uniting elements in culture. This year we will present the most striking films made in Russia and we hope they will be as popular in India as they have been in Russia”.
The first festival “Russian Film Days” in India dates back to 2015. It was mentioned in the joint statement of the president of Russia Vladimir Putin and the Prime-Minister of India Narendra Modi during the BRICS summit.
The fourth festival is organized by LLC Cinemarus and supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, Russian Filmmakers Union, Russian National Fund of Copyright’s Holders Support, Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of India, Russian Center of Science and Culture in New Delhi and Star Media Film Company.

The premiere of the award-winning Short film titled “Kitaab” starring legendary actor late Mr. Tom Atler held in New Delhi. The actor who will be remembered for his brilliant acting, Tom Alter will be seen in his last feature film. The movie is based on the increasing influence of electronic gadgets, we are moving away from books. Therefore, apart from the film screening, there was also a panel discussion on the topic of “Impact of Electronics gadgets on Books.”
The event took place in Film Division Auditorium at Mahadev Road. The entire program was graced by the presence of well-known personalities and the panelists, Padmbhushan Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak, Founder Sulabh Swachchata Andolan and Smt. Maitreyee Pushpa noted Novelist and Hindi Writer, Vice Chairperson, Hindi Academy, as well as director of the film Kamlesh K Mishra.
In the panel discussion, Dr. Pathak stated, “Nowadays, people are tangled up in gadgets and mobiles. All these gadgets need support, they can’t work without any support like electricity, internet and all, but our books are free. Yes, gadgets are also important but it can’t replace the feel of a book.”
Whereas, Smt. Maitreyee said, “the history of Kitaab is old, it changes every phase of life and things have changed a lot, we don’t need any technology for a book, no internet nothing. We can read a book anywhere, in a forest as well. Yes, technology has reached so far, mobile phones are useful for everyone even ladies in small villages as well. But the culture of books will never end and it should not end.”
Directed by the award-winning director Kamlesh K Mishra, the impactful film reveals, because of the increasing influence of electronic gadgets, the books are getting away from us. And the legendary actor Late Tom Alter has played the role of an old librarian in this film and left no stone unturned to get the last reader coming to the library.

The film is an adaptation of Harinder Sikka’s novel Calling Sehmat, about an Indian spy married to a Pakistani military officer during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. Harjeeta is based on the passionate true story of Harjeet Singh, who captained the Indian squad at the 2016 Men’s Hockey Junior World Cup. Well, the entire details are revealed by Ammy Virk himself, who was present in a press conference held in PVR Plaza, Connaught Place, New Delhi. Along with him the producer of the film Bhushan K Chopra, Munish Sahni, Varinderr Kumar and Vikas Jain were also present for the same.
While talking to media peeps about the movie and his character Ammy Virk, stated, “Firstly, I would like to thank the entire media for supporting our film. Yes, Harjeeta is a biopic and it’s releasing this 18th May. A film on Harjeet Singh Ji Captain of Indian Hockey Tema and his life journey. This movie revealing the struggle faced by him and his family and how his passion made his dream comes true.” Further, he added, “My experience while working for this film was great. For a biopic, it’s difficult to match the reel life look with real character, and somehow it worked well for us. Each and everyone from our team worked really hard for this film. It’s a different film I hope people will; appreciate our work.”
As the movie is based on true story, it reveals the life of Harjeet Singh Tuli an Indian hockey player, whose family, like so many families in this country was struggling with the biggest problem of our nation, poverty. Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora and featured by Sizzlen Productions & Malika Productions, Harjeeta will be releasing on May 18, 2018.
