A laughter-filled start to Hasya Rang Utsav

New Delhi: The much-awaited Hasya Rang Utsav , organized by Sahitya Kala Parishad and the Government of NCT, Delhi , commenced with resounding laughter and applause on its opening day at Kamani Auditorium, Mandi House. The festival’s inaugural evening delivered an unforgettable dose of humor and theatrical brilliance, setting the stage for the next two laughter-filled days.

The evening began with a lively performance by renowned comedian Sunil Pal , whose effortless humor had the audience roaring with laughter. Known for his relatable jokes and impeccable comic timing, Pal brought his signature charm to the stage, weaving together stories and punchlines that resonated with every age group. His act was a lighthearted commentary on everyday life setting the tone for an evening of entertainment. Following this, the classic play ‘ Charandas Chor ‘, written by the acclaimed playwright and theater director Habib Tanvir and directed by Rajesh Tiwari (NSD) , captivated the crowd with its poignant satire and vibrant storytelling. ‘Charandas Chor’ is a satirical play that follows the story of Charandas, a thief who surprisingly sticks to four principles: never eating from a gold plate, never lying, never taking someone else’s wife, and never running from the police. As Charandas tries to balance his criminal life with his unusual honesty, the play uses humor and wit to explore deeper questions about morality and human nature. The play is known for its lively characters, folk music, and thought-provoking storytelling. It is a celebrated classic of Indian theater, blending social critique with entertainment.

Speaking about the festival’s day one success, Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj, Hon’ble Minister of Art, Culture & Languages, Government of Delhi , shared, “ The overwhelming response to the first day of Hasya Rang Utsav is heartening. Delhi’s audiences have always embraced art and culture with open arms, and this festival spotlights our commitment to bringing joy and meaningful entertainment to the city. Hasya Rang Utsav is an incredible effort to keep the tradition of Indian comedy alive while catering to modern sensibilities. I encourage everyone to join us in celebrating the rich tradition of laughter and theatre over the next two days. â€
